Skin Shader - Painterly Effect

Rematch has a very strong art style, it was a very interesting challenge to reproduce it real-time.

With the Help of Sabrina Tobal our (Lead Concept Artist) and Morgane Perrin (Lead Character Artist), we've developed a shader and a pipeline to produce assets, mask and material that reflect, our particular art style.

The base of the shader, is to compute the dot product of the light and the normal camera.
For each pass, Tinted Shadows, SSS and Highlights, on top of the dot we are using some math, to wrap the dot for each pass.
Those passes are multiply by dedicated masks, to keep the effect on specific locations.

To be compatible with our customization, we're also adding the Eyebrows, make up, vitiligo, lips stick the hair and beard Scalps.
All those effects can be customized individually or disabled.
And of course the skin tone can be changed, and affect the different art pass, Shadows, SSS and Highlights.

Finally, the beard "scalp" is added. And we have our final result.

All effect and stylization are art driven and are compatible with our customization.
